Welcome!

We are GRCB’s Youth Activism Project (YAP), a small, youth-led team that chooses a different topic to research and organize around each year.

In 2021/2022 we explored the topic of creating and providing safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth, in schools youth programs, and communities in general. We’ve gathered data from youth in our community, analyzed and shared it. We’ve also had the opportunity to host a panel of activists, artists, and youth workers with plenty of experience creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth. We asked them questions about what teachers, allies, and parents can do to create a supportive environment, and why this is important to LGBTQ+ students and teens.

Take a look around our website to learn from these workshops and check out our additional resources, which include a glossary of LGBTQ+ terms and identities and resources for LGBTQ+ youth who need mental health support. We hope you enjoy and learn more about creating safe spaces!

WORKSHOPS

This semester, we conducted a survey of youth in our community on what “safety” meant for them, and also had the opportunity to speak with a wide panel about creating spaces for LGBTQ+ youth. See our videos where we break down our data results and hear from activists and experts on this topic!

GLOSSARY

Educating yourself on LGBTQ+ identities, labels and terminology can go a long way towards creating an environment where youth feel comfortable and accepted. Here is a glossary where you can understand these terms!
